EVENT: ACHEMA 2018

Following a successful Achema side-event in 2015, Britest, PNO and TNO have been moving forward an agenda to develop industry-proof Business Case and Business Model Innovation tools for flexible and efficient production.

BUSINESS MODELS FOR FLEXIBLE AND EFFICIENT PRODUCTION

Recently, the project TKI Modular & Flexible gained insight into the economic potential of novel business models based on flexible production. The project developed a generalized model, validated on industrial case studies, that supports companies in constructing and evaluating potential business cases for the implementation of flexible modular manufacturing. The ongoing EC Horizon 2020 INSPIRE project is focused on developing new innovative business models for more flexible and sustainable manufacturing value chains whilst providing guidelines for measuring the performance of these novel models under different scenarios. The business models and tools developed in these projects facilitate more and more companies to employ flexibility.

COLLABORATION IS KEY

However, as is often the case with innovation, the route from concept and the first application of a technological solution towards broad industry adoption is long and bumpy. The EC Horizon 2020 SPRING Project has the objective to increase progression towards the SPIRE goals and enhance project return on investment by addressing the needs and barriers of those who make the decisions to adopt process innovations in the industry.“ It is key that companies, knowledge suppliers and governments join forces. Only then will the industry stay ahead of the game.

SHAPING THE INNOVATION AGENDA AT DINNER

During an exclusive workshop, we welcome you as a representative of the process industry community to enjoy dinner while exchanging ideas with your peers about the next steps on our innovation agenda for flexible and efficient production. Our aim is to collectively identify common interests, barriers and solutions. This will flow into:

  • Multinational innovation roadmap, that will be developed for the European Commission in the INSPIRE project to accelerate development and implementation.
  • Guidance developed for a participant in EC funded collaborations by the SPRING project to enable them to provide support to decision-makers in implementing innovative flexible efficient process technologies.
